VATUSA Reference & Study Guides
Overview
These Study Guides are designed to give you the information you need to begin your career as a VATUSA virtual Air Traffic Controller, as well as to maintain it. The layout of these guides has gone through a few changes and a lot of the information has been updated. You'll notice that the information is still based on actual Federal Aviation Administration procedures contained in the Aeronautical Information Manual and FAA Order 7110.65 as interpreted by real-life air traffic controllers. But instead of dispensing the information chapter by chapter, I have decided to present these guides to you in a text book format, since this format allows for more information and can sometimes be easier to comprehend. Another change from the previous guides is that I have included a link to the chapter and paragraph of the 7110.65 or AIM that the section in this guide pertains too (where applicable). I have also dedicated a page in the new reference section entirely to all public FAA publications and documentations in either HTML or Adobe PDF format.
The Radar Client information has also been updated and placed on a page by itself and now includes Virtual Radar Client (VRC). I have created a format that allows for a brief description of the client which I quoted directly from the developer's website and also inserted some of the program's interesting features. On this page you'll find links to download the program or to the downloads page, a link to the program's documentation, and the link to the developer's website. One other point of interest is that since radar client configuration and usage is now being taught in the Training Academy I have decided to remove the ASRC study guide from the reference section and have removed all radar client questions from the Student and Controller tests at the Certification Center. But should you still like a copy you may download it from the VATSIM homepage under Controller Tools.
It is my hope that you will find find this material useful and will apply the information to your controlling sessions on a daily basis. If you find what you believe to be errors, conflicting information, or have any recommendations please contact me or any member of the VATUSA Training Staff. -- Jason Sutton, VATUSA3
