Q:
I have taken the (S2-C1) written exam but I am still unable to log into VATSIM with that rating. Why is this?
A:
There are three steps involved in the promotion process. They are as follows:
1.) The instructor has to sign you up to take the written exam.
2.) You must take and pass with a 80% or higher. If you fail, then you will have to wait the time specified in the Training Material / Certification Center
3.) You must be given an Over the Shoulder Examination. For the S1 rating, this is done via Sweatbox. For the S3-C1 ratings, this can be done either via the network (the most common method) or via sweatbox (not as common but still a good method). You are required to know, and be tested upon, certain items on the exam. These ensure your training is in compliance with the VATUSA Rating Guidelines. If you look over these documents and find there is an item you have not had covered in your training, then please don't hesitate to let your instructor know!
4.) After you pass the OTS examination, the instructor has to go into the system and actually preform the promotion. Once this is done, it will usually take 24-48 hours to go through. Once it goes through, you will be able to log into the network with your new rating.
Q:
How long does it take for my promotion to go through?
A:
It usually takes somewhere between 12-24 hours before your rating is updated on the VATSIM servers.
Q:
Which radar client should I use?
A:
As it stands right now, there are currently three different radar clients which you may use to control on the VATSIM Network.
a.) VRC (http://www.metcraft.com/VRC)
b.) ASRC (http://www.asrc.info/)
c.) Euroscope (http://www.euroscope.hu/)
VRC is the more common client and it is more simple to use than ASRC, and is the one most VATUSA controllers use. Euroscope was designed primarily for the radar systems overseas, however, there are a few ARTCCs in VATUSA which support it.
Q:
Where can I find ICAO airline codes and call signs?
Q:
I am an Inactive ATC and would like to begin controlling again. What do I need to do?
A:
If you have been removed from an inactive ARTCC roster, login to the VATUSA website and click the ARTCC Transfer form under the MyVATUSA menu. Chances are that this is all you will need to do in order to get back active again. If you went inactive and have an OBS (Observer) Rating, then you will need to start over, from the home page, click 'Become a VATUSA ATC' on the Most Popular links menu on the right side of the page.
Q:
I would like to transfer to another ARTCC, what is the process to do so?
A:
If you would like to transfer, login to the VATUSA website (http://www.vatusa.net) and click the ARTCC Transfer form under the MyVATUSA menu. If you are eligible to transfer, the form will display, if not, you will get an explanation of possible reasons why you may not be able to transfer.
Q:
How long do I have to wait before retaking a VATUSA written exam?
A:
VATUSA (S2, S3, C1) Exams are automatically reassigned after the mandatory 7 day waiting period. You should receive an email when the exam has been reassigned.
Q:
Where can I get help on VRC, Squawkbox, etc?
A:
VATSIM's forums have several places to get help from experts on many of these programs and most of the time you can get the help you are looking for by searching through the past posts in the Members Helping Members forum found at
THIS LINK
Q:
What types of questions can I ask via the SKYPE and Live Help links at the bottom of the page?
A:
You can ask any question that you'd like that is training related. Need a clarification on something you've read in the TRC? Maybe you want to know how to get started as an ATC. Feel free to utilize these methods to ask. We will be more than happy to help.
