From the VATUSA Training Director
Welcome to the Training Department of the United States division of the VATSIM Network. Within these pages you will find all the necessary materials needed to start and maintain your virtual ATC career. Consider them learning tools for the trade. Without them it will be difficult for you to go very far. The training reference guides have been updated with current information that new and senior controllers will most likely find useful. Basic ATC information has been included as well as more advanced techniques such as understanding operations at uncontrolled facilities and controlling non-precision approaches. Anything you can possibly think of or could need can be found in these guides.
If you are looking for information on how to be promoted or what types of questions can be found on VATUSA written exams, then look no further. A complete breakdown of the promotion and testing process is included in this site. You'll find that all of these documents have been updated with new and improved information, as the Training Department tried to anticipate your every question and concern. Finally, it is suggested that you familiarize yourself with the training policies and guidelines as these documents serve as the backbone of this department. Every VATUSA controller is expected to abide by these policies while online, whether observing or controlling. They are fair policies and are meant to be taken seriously.
Remember, make use of the resources available here for you. They are meant to help you become the best virtual controller possible. If there is anything that you'd like to see added, please notify me or a member of my staff for consideration. Again, welcome to VATUSA. I hope to see you back here real soon.
Blue Skies,
Jason Sutton, VATUSA3
Director of Training
