About the Role

The Albuquerque ARTCC is hiring a Training Administrator to lead our training program through a large policy shift, and onward. The ideal candidate has a firm grasp of ZAB's airspace and facilities, a genuine investment in helping controllers grow, and a drive to keep our learning culture sharp and forward-moving. Just as important: this person must be able to produce and sustain professional, well-organized training documentation. That capability sits at the center of the job.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Air Traffic Manager and VATUSA3. This role requires roughly 6-8 hours per week in time commitment.
  • Stays visible, reachable, and active through the website, Discord, email, and on the network.
  • Represents their department in scheduled quarterly staff meetings.
  • Manages and improves the full training pipeline: lessons, sweatbox scenarios, and quiz rubrics, keeping each piece current, effective, and scenario-based.
  • Writes, organizes, and continually refreshes the program's documentation so it stays clear, accurate, and easy to follow. This is a defining, day-to-day part of the role.
  • Manages the ZAB learning management system Candidate Hub.
  • Carries the weight of a senior staff role, guiding the culture of the community.
  • Builds a learning space where students feel supported and are positioned to do well.
  • Monitors and maintains training statistics, driven by session completion and OTS pass rate.
  • Recruits, onboards, and oversees new Mentors and Instructors (I1s)
  • Gathers the training team periodically to walk through what's changing and why.
  • Comes up with inventive resources that move controllers through the program more smoothly.
  • Other duties as assigned by the ATM.

Requirements

  • An active member of the network in good standing.
  • Either already part of ZAB, or prepared to transfer in if selected.
  • Rated C1 or higher.
  • Communicates clearly, effectively, and often with other team members.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain documents: the kind of clean, structured, professional written work this role lives on. This is a hard requirement, not a nice-to-have.

Preferred Skills

  • Real-world professional background in aviation, training, instruction, or something adjacent; this carries significant weight.
  • An I1 in VATUSA held currently or in the past for at least six months.
  • A track record of leading, managing, or supervising, whether in the real world or on VATSIM.
  • Working knowledge of how ZAB runs its policies and procedures.
  • Professional attitude, and a willingness to meet people where they are.

How to Apply

To apply, send a full application package — subject line "ZAB TA Application Package" — to [email protected] with the following:

  • Personal info: your full name, CID, email address, and Discord username/ID.
  • Cover Letter: lay out why you want to help steer the ZAB ARTCC, point to specific evidence that you check the boxes this role requires, and describe how the training program would move forward with you running it.
  • Resume: call out any relevant real-world and VATSIM experience, particularly leadership based.
  • Sweatbox Scenario Plan: Attach a document that outlines a time-based sweatbox scenario for a rating of your choice. It should include instructor actions, student actions, explanations, and appropriate references to FAA or ZAB documentation. (Formatting will be paramount here.)
